Sony may have more than one major announcement coming this week if Michael Pachter is to be believed. On Tuesday it was reported that Wedbush Securities Michael Pachter has confidence in Sony cutting the price of the PlayStation 3 sometime durin this week.
As the world watches Sony Computer Entertainment on Wednesday, Feb. 20, unveil the PlayStation 4, the future of the PlayStation brand will be revealed.
Though the future of PlayStation will be the focus of the event, it seems unlikely that Sony will forgo any mention of the PS3 as the system still has several major software releases coming in the upcoming months – Naughty Dog’s “The Last of Us” being one such title.
Actually, Michael Pachter expects that Sony will cut the price happen by Feb. 21. If Sony does in fact cut the price of the PlayStation 3, Pachter expects the price to be cut down to $199. He also feels that Microsoft will likely match the $199 price on Xbox 360 by E3 2013, which takes place in June.
Whether a price drop happens or not remains to be seen, however, it would be a notable side announcement for Sony to make on Wednesday. With “God of War Ascension”, “The Last of Us”, and “Beyond: Two Souls” set to release in the near future, a PS3 price drop would certainly catch a lot of consumer interest.
