Sony Computer Entertainment announced on Oct. 1 that an all-new firmware update is now available for the PS3. System update 4.50 brings some new features to the PlayStation 3 along with some minor improvements that make downloading future system updates more convenient for all PS3 owners – no longer just PS+ subscribers.
Those who have been a subscriber to Sony’s PlayStation Plus service have long been able to enjoy the pleasure of having the PS3 automatically download software and system updates while the system is off.
Well, that feature is now available to all PS3 owners thanks to PS3 Firmware 4.50.
In addition to automatic background downloads, the new firmware will provide people with additional privacy settings. Users can now choose which of their Trophies are visible to friends and other PSN members. If you are embarrassed by that Hannah Montana Platinum Trophy, you can now hide it.
Likewise, the new firmware has made it easier to move games, movies, and other content between your PS3 and PS Vita wirelessly.
The new features to Firmware 4.50 are the following:
- Auto download of system software updates has been expanded to support all PSN users.
- Auto download support of purchases made on the Web Store will be made available to all PSN users.
- New options for trophy privacy settings allow users to set which trophies are visible.
- Data can now be transferred from PS3 to PS Vita using wi-fi and ethernet connection.
