The PlayStation 4 isn't released yet, but certain interesting details are starting to trickle out as its November 15 release date nears. The latest tidbit to come out is the reveal that the new DualShock 4 controller will be compatible with the PlayStation 3, although it may not work with every game.
A new video from YouTube user Udetto shows that the DualShock 4 can be used to play some games for PS3. In the video, he plays 'Urban Trial Freestyle' and the controller works to perfection. In fact, at one point he claims that the analog stick works "too good," as he attempts to adjust his character to land on a ramp and overcompensates.
However, he said that when trying 'FIFA 14,' the results were not so great. It worked fine for the menus, but it did not work when getting into the game. Apparently the game looks for a wireless controller, but the DualShock 4 only interfaces with the PS3 through a wired connection.
It will certainly be interesting to see if any other PS3 games will work with the new controller. Many of the journalists who have been able to try the new controller for themselves have been saying that the DualShock 4 is much improved over the DualShock 3 in a number of areas.
More than any other type of game, it would benefit PS3 shooters for the DualShock 4 to be compatible. The PS3's controller was never praised for its accuracy, something the PS4's controller rectified.
Sony has already stated that the DualShock 4 will be compatible with PCs in some capacity.
More information will certainly come available as the November 15 release date draws closer.
