Telltale Games' adventure title, The Walking Dead, was a surprise hit for the PS3, Xbox 360, PC and iPad in 2012. Now Sony confirmed Friday that the episodic series is headed to the PS Vita in an interview released Friday.
PlayStation’s Director of Product Planning and Platform Software Innovation Don Mesa told IGN that Telltale will be supporting the PS Vita by bringing over The Walking Dead.
When talking about the unique experiences that the PS Vita can provide gamers, Mesa said: "Again, a good example is with The Walking Dead. We think that the emotion and the immersive experiences you're going to get there, wherever you're sitting, if you're in your living room and playing on your Vita or sitting at a café or at the bus stop and playing this, you get that shock or fright. I think that's going to be important. That's what we want to deliver as you're playing."
The PS Vita's touchscreen and traditional console controls should allow gamer to play The Walking Dead in different ways. However, the challenge is going to be convincing consumers to pick up the game for the handheld. Telltale had a breakout hit with the game and sold millions of copies across the PS3, Xbox 360, PC and iPad. The number of PS Vita owners who haven't played it are quite small which means providing some unique enticement to encourage repeat purchases.
No release date for The Walking Dead has been announced yet.
