Pruning Trees for Future Growth presentation

Next week, on Saturday, February 16, 2013, The Friends of Manito will present ‘Pruning Trees for Future Growth’ at 10 a.m. in the Manito Meeting Room. The presenter will be Steve Nittolo, City of Spokane Park Horticulturist.

Many tree failures occur because of poor pruning decisions made when the tree was young, causing weak branch structures. Both the strength of the branches and the looks of the tree can be improved by proper early pruning, branch selection and branch training.

The class will focus mainly on young trees, and the importance of determining future permanent branches, starting early and avoiding structure that is likely to fail. It’s very difficult to go back years down the road and correct bad structure in an older plant.

The class is free of charge and open to the public. Bring questions about pruning woody plants!
