Forecast discussion: After heading out this morning, it felt more like a day in mid-July than the beginning of September. Providence has just hit the high temperature for the day at 89 degrees at 4 p.m. The heat index makes it feel like 96. We will continue to have the very warm weather into the end of the week.
Right now, a weak disturbance is passing through Southern New England. Some thunderstorms have formed just over northwest Rhode Island. We will continue to see the threat for a shower or thunderstorm into early Wednesday morning. By then, a cold front will pass through, helping to rid us of the humidity by Wednesday night. It will make it more comfortable to see the Pawtucket Red Sox play playoff baseball at McCoy.
High pressure will continue to give us dry weather for Thursday and Friday. By late Friday night, a new cold front will bring humid conditions back to Southern New England, as our winds turn to the southwest. We will see some scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms through Saturday, but it will not be an all-day affair.
By Sunday morning, the cold front will begin to move offshore. Showers will be ending by the early afternoon. As the high build in, it will also bring down some very cool air. By Sunday afternoon, our high temperatures will only be in the lower to middle 70’s.
