Forecast discussion: High pressure off the Southeast U.S. coastline brought Providence a nice day of sunshine. Temperatures for the day reached the lower 70’s with a little bit more humidity in the air. The extra moisture is due to a weak disturbance passing into New England. Later this evening, showers and thunderstorms along that disturbance will pass through Rhode Island. Partts of the state will see heavy rainfall, which might create a little street or river flooding.
As we move into Wednesday, the showers and thunderstorms will move out to sea. A cold front over Ohio at the moment will move over Southern New England. We will maintain cloud cover and the threat of some isolated showers through the day and into the overnight. As we move into early Thursday morning, the chances for seeing rainfall will increase. A low pressure system over eastern Colorado at the moment will push through the Mid-Atlantic region and remain south of Southern New England. However, it will bring light to moderate rain and isolated thunderstorms.
The low will move offshore by Thursday night, but the low will remain stationary near the Gulf of Maine on Friday. We will see the chance for isolated showers through the day, before high pressure behind the low pushes the system further east. The high will bring drier air and warmer temperatures for the weekend. Unlike last weekend, this one looks fantastic. Temperatures will be slightly above normal, as highs reach the upper 70’s to near 80 degrees. By Sunday night, a new cold front will bring the risk of showers and light rain on Monday morning.
We will see precipitation throughout the day, until the front moves offshore early Tuesday morning. We will see the precipitation come to an end before dawn, but we will only see limited sunshine. With winds coming from the east, we will see temperatures cool into the lower 70’s.
