Forecast discussion: Providence received a beautiful spring day on Monday, thanks in part to high pressure over Delaware. At T.F. Green Airport in Warwick, we went up to a high of 58 degrees today. However, after seeing great weather over the weekend, we will begin to see some weak cold fronts pass through New England this week.
The first cold front will arrive by Tuesday evening. It is currently west of the Great Lakes. We will begin to see some high clouds this evening, along with some patchy fog in places. We will see overcast skies by the afternoon, with some showers arriving by the early evening. We will see showers through Tuesday night, with the return of some patchy fog. However, the precipitation will be short lived, as the front will be offshore by Wednesday morning.
High pressure currently over the Rocky Mountains will begin to build over New England. But, the low will still only be leaving the Gulf of Maine. So, we will see breezy conditions Wednesday afternoon, but high temperatures will still be near 60. It will remain breezy on Thursday, as the low continues to move into Nova Scotia, with the high’s center moving closer to New England. The high will continue to influence our weather by Friday, when a weak cold front will move into New England by the evening. Showers will end by dawn, and we will see limited sunshine for Saturday.
As we end the weekend, the low pressure center will become stationary north of the Gulf of Maine. There is still the chance for isolated showers on Sunday, but high pressure will build in by Monday morning. Temperatures will remain seasonable for the extended period.
