Forecast discussion: After some early morning showers and light rain, skies began to clear faster than what I forecast last night. This was due to the speed of the cold front coming down into Southern New England faster than the models predicted. Now, skies did look threatening at times, like a thunderstorm would begin, but the air was just too stable. As of 4 p.m., the cold front was helping to create a few isolated thunderstorms south of Providence and heading into Newport County.
After the cold front moves offshore, the humidity will lower, and skies will slowly clear during the overnight. The air will feel comfortable once again, as high pressure coming down from Canada will control our weather through the weekend. As winds shift to the southwest, our high temperatures will slowly climb into the lower 80’s. As we head into early next week, we will finish June with temperatures possibly reaching the middle to upper 80’s.
As we head into Tuesday, a low pressure center over Canada will bring a slow moving cold front towards the east coast. Right now, the American model predicts isolated showers ahead of the front, with more scattered activity for Wednesday and into Thursday. Although it is still a little early to forecast the Fourth of July, many models believe the front will move offshore late Thursday night, bringing dry weather and seasonable temperatures for the holiday.
