Forecast discussion: A ridge of high pressure coming out of Canada helped give Providence a beautiful Tuesday. We continue to have low humidity, and our overnight lows were quite chilly, especially in the northern part of Rhode Island this early morning. We will continue to see cool temperatures at night, thanks to clear skies and calm winds.
A stalled low pressure system off the coast of North Carolina will remain to our south, as many computer models now agree that the strong ridge will protect us. However, some moisture from a low over Michigan will bring increasing clouds by Wednesday afternoon. Also, winds will shift to an easterly wind, which will help keep temperatures slightly cooler. We will see a pattern of seeing mostly cloudy skies at night, and by Friday, we will see limited sunshine.
The low offshore has been shown by the models in recent days to return back to southern New England over the weekend, due to a blocking pattern in the upper levels of the atmosphere over the northern Atlantic. However, it seems now the ridge will keep the low to our east, so we will see limited sunshine and cooler temperatures through the weekend. In fact, high temperatures will only reach the lower to middle 70’s. But, winds will begin to turn back to the southwest, helping to increase our temperatures back to seasonable levels by Tuesday. The weather will be nice at the bus stop, as many cities and towns in Rhode Island start school once again next Tuesday.
