Forecast discussion: Despite a cold front moving past Rhode Island early Thursday morning, it did help to set off some showers and light rain. By the late morning, some sunshine was peeking through the clouds. By the late afternoon, skies were mostly sunny, and the humidity was lowering. We reached our high temperature for the day in Providence at 4 p.m. at 79 degrees.
As we go through the weekend, a high pressure system over Canada will keep a ridge over Southern New England. This ridge will be strong, as we will see nothing but mostly sunny skies and comfortable temperatures right into Monday. We will begin to see more moisture move towards New England on Tuesday, as a weak cold front slowly brings showers towards the area.
At this time, the computer models agree that the ridge will begin to break down, and we have the chance to see our first rainfall by late Wednesday night. The front will slowly push through the area on Thursday, giving us the risk of showers and thunderstorms. Our high temperatures will slowly climb into the lower 80’s by next Wednesday, which will be slightly above normal for the last full week in June.
