Providence weather: Nicest weekend of year on tap

Forecast discussion: After seeing some showers during the early morning on Friday, a weak disturbance helped keep more clouds than sunshine over Providence. As the evening progresses, the disturbance will move offshore, allowing for high pressure to bring drier air. This will help clear our skies for this evening.

As we move through the weekend, the high will control our weather. The high will bring sunny skies and warm temperatures. I am expecting highs inland to reach the lower 80’s. If you happen to be along the coast, the sea breeze may kick in during the afternoon. This will keep temperatures in the middle 70’s.

As we begin the new workweek, we will be seeing a low pressure system move very slowly into the Ohio River Valley. Meanwhile, a weak low pressure system will be offshore of Cape Cod. The offshore low will stall the low over Ohio, keeping scattered showers out of the area until the Monday afternoon. But, because the offshore low will not be moving, we will continue to see isolated showers until Tuesday evening.

By early Wednesday morning, the offshore low will weaken and dissipate. We will see limited sunshine on Wednesday and Thursday, and our temperatures will not be as warm as this weekend. By the end of next week, a new cold front will be passing into the region by late Friday morning. We will begin to see showers and some light to moderate rain by the middle of the afternoon. It will be quite cool on Friday, as daytime highs will fall into the upper 60’s to lower 70’s.
