Providence weather: Nice, warmer for Sunday

Forecast discussion: A strong high pressure system centered over the eastern Great Lakes brought sunny skies on Saturday to Providence. Unfortunately, north-northeast winds kept our temperatures quite cool for the end of May. However, we will be starting June with seasonable temperatures.

As we move through Sunday, winds will shift from the cold north-northeast to the warmer south-southeast direction. This will allow for some warmer air to arrive, and bring our temperatures inland to the middle 70’s. We will have clear to partly cloudy skies for Sunday night, with more sunshine during the first half of Monday. High temperatures will actually feel like summer, with highs reaching 80 degrees. As we move into the evening commute, we will begin to see increasing clouds.

As we move into early Tuesday morning, a warm front from the west will slowly move towards New England. We will begin to see isolated showers, before the precipitation becomes heavier, especially during the overnight hours. We will see moderate rain and isolated thunderstorms at times. The heavier rainfall will begin to taper off through Wednesday morning, before all precipitation ends before midnight. As we head into the following weekend, a high pressure system will provide us with dry weather. Temperatures will remain slightly below normal.

Also, tomorrow is the beginning of the 2014 Atlantic hurricane season. Predictions this year is actually showing a slightly below average year. However, the American model is showing some sort of circulation forming in the northern Bay of Campeche by Wednesday.
