Forecast discussion: We had some partial sunshine over Providence Wednesday morning, as a low pressure system moved south of Southern New England. Once the low moved south of Nantucket, the clouds thinned, allowing for more sunshine. We will see clear to partly cloudy skies this evening, and high pressure will continue to give us nice weather on Thursday. The weather will be dry but cool as the Pawtucket Red Sox begin their 2014 season at home at McCoy Stadium Thursday night.

We will begin to see clouds increase once again Thursday night, due to an area of low pressure developing over western Oklahoma at the moment. A second low ahead of the system will move east of the first low, and help to bring some scattered showers by Friday night. The cold front will pass through on Saturday, and all precipitation should end by the middle of Saturday afternoon. With the warm front passing through Saturday morning, any sunshine we receive Saturday afternoon may push temperatures into the lower 60’s.

A new high pressure system will sit right over the Northeast U.S. for Sunday and most of Monday. A new low pressure system will bring some showers Monday night. The low will gather some strength as it settles over New York Tuesday. This means we could see some moderate rain at times Tuesday afternoon. However, the low will slowly move into Canada, and all precipitation will end as the cold front moves offshore Tuesday night.

As we move into the middle of next week, a deep long wave trough in the upper levels of the atmosphere will remain over the eastern U.S. Although we will have mostly sunny skies for next Wednesday, colder air from Canada will make temperatures well below normal during the daytime hours. At this time, I am only expecting highs in the middle 40’s.
