Forecast discussion: A strong high pressure system coming down from Canada brought bright sunshine and low humidity to Providence on Monday. Temperatures remain seasonable, as we head into the end of August. As we move through the next seven days, temperatures will actually be slightly below normal. But, it will still be warm as kids head back to school by next Tuesday in the Ocean State.
The high will give us a repeat of today’s weather, as temperatures may reach 80 degrees inland. The evenings will remain cool, as temperatures fall into the upper 50’s in northern Rhode Island, to the lower 60’s for the rest of the state. The next chance for any showers will be Wednesday evening. A low pressure system forming over North Carolina may bring an isolated shower late Wednesday night. Otherwise, we will see partly to mostly sunny weather entering the weekend.
The models feel that same low pressure system forming over the Carolinas will stay well offshore entering the weekend, but a blocking pattern in the upper levels will actually push the low back to the west. So, we may see some isolated showers by Sunday night, as the low’s center will be near Cape Cod. The isolated to scattered showers would continue into next Monday.
However, the European model keeps us relatively dry Wednesday night and Friday afternoon. The risk for some showers is about the same for Sunday into Monday, as the model keeps the precipitation shield just south of the area. However, this forecast is seven days away, and the models can change the forecast a few times before we reach that time. Otherwise, we will see a cool, dry forecast period.
