Providence weather: Heat and humidity increasing

Forecast discussion: High pressure over western New York brought Providence a beautiful day, as temperatures were in the upper 70’s. However, as we move through the next 48 hours, our winds will turn to the southwest. This will allow for more moisture from the south to move over New England. This will make our humidity levels increase, and become more oppressive by Wednesday.

For Tuesday, I am expecting temperatures to reach the middle 80’s. I am expecting dewpoint temperatures to reach the upper 60’s by early Wednesday morning. We will see dense fog across much of the state. As we move into Wednesday, a cold front now making its way into Minnesota will bring the risk for some showers and thunderstorms. We will begin to see some precipitation early Thursday morning. There may be times when we see some heavy periods of rain.

Looking over the computer models, it appears the precipitation will come to an end just before midnight Thursday night. We will see partial clearing entering early Friday morning. Also, our humidity will drop, as winds come from the northeast. High pressure will then give us nice weather to begin the weekend. However, cooler air will keep our high temperatures below normal.

So far, we have had seven straight weekends without any precipitation. Saturday looks like we will make it number eight. However, the computer models feel we may see some evening showers on Sunday. A slow moving low pressure system over the Ohio River Valley will keep showers, rain, and embedded thunderstorms over us entering next Monday.

Meanwhile, the Atlantic is starting to get busy. As of 5 p.m. EST, the National Hurricane Center issued its first advisory on Tropical Depression Two. It is about 1200 miles east of the Lesser Antilles. However, the low will not be in an area where there will be a good environment for development. At this time, the forecast calls for the system to be a remnant low within 5 days.
