Forecast discussion: You could not have asked for a more perfect weather day in Providence. After yesterday’s late thunderstorms, high pressure over the Great Lakes brought bright sunshine and fair weather clouds to the state of Rhode Island. We reached a high of 85 degrees at T.F. Green Airport in Warwick.

This high will control our weather pattern throughout the weekend. So, if you have any outdoor plans or activities, the weather will be just fine. The humidity should remain low, and winds will shift to the south by the late afternoon. The high will control our weather right into Monday night.

By Tuesday, the next cold front will be inching closer to New England. Also, it will combine with a developed low which will bring showers to the Mid-Atlantic on Sunday. The two systems will combine their moisture and energy by Wednesday. So, I am expecting the risk of some heavy rainfall at times, along with scattered thunderstorms. The front will quickly take the energy from these lows out to sea by early Thursday morning.

Once the system moves out to sea, high pressure will once again reign over our skies. However, some cooler air will stay over the area, keeping our high temperatures in the upper 70’s to lower 80’s entering next weekend.

Finally, Hawaii was hit hard by Tropical Storm Iselle earlier Friday morning. This is only the second time in recorded history the island was hit by a tropical system. The center made landfall at 2:30 a.m. Hawaiian time. There were power outages, ripped roofs off of homes, and almost eleven inches of rain has fallen as of Friday morning. Tropical Storm Warnings remain in effect for the island, as Hurricane Julio is expected to move about 100 miles northeast of the main island.
