Forecast discussion: After temperatures reached the upper 70’s in Providence Sunday afternoon, a dry cold front passed through the state. This created strong northwest winds, and temperatures are falling. We will feel autumn like temperatures over the next few days, before a hint of summer returns by midweek.
Northwest winds reached as much as 20 mph Sunday afternoon, and cooler air from Canada is moving over the region. Our low temperatures will fall into the middle 40’s, with high temperatures trying to reach 70 degrees by Monday afternoon. More moisture will move over New England starting Tuesday night, as a low pressure system makes its way into the region. With higher dewpoints, our temperatures will increase. Overnight lows on Wednesday will only fall to the upper 60’s, as a warm front moves over New England.
However, this front will also bring some showers and possible thunderstorms Wednesday evening. The precipitation will continue into Thursday, before the front moves offshore Friday morning. We will see autumn like weather next weekend, as high temperatures only reach the upper 60’s to lower 70’s. Overnight lows will fall into the upper 40’s to lower 50’s.
Meanwhile, Tropical Depression Nine has formed off the west coast of Africa. As of 8:00 p.m. EDT, Nine was centered at 13.1N 21.4W, or about 190 miles southeast of the Cape Verde Islands.
