Forecast discussion: A strong high pressure system over Long Island at the moment brought a beautiful Friday weather wise to Providence. It felt more like autumn than late summer, and we will face one more night of fall temperatures. Temperatures will warm up for the weekend, along with some passing showers on Sunday.
The high will slowly move offshore and into the Atlantic on Saturday. We will see some increasing clouds throughout the afternoon, with overcast skies by Saturday night. A cold front passing through northern New England will provide us with a few passing showers Sunday morning, before they end Sunday afternoon. By Sunday night, cooler air will return, and temperatures will fall into the middle 40’s.
We will remain cooler than normal on Monday, despite bright sunshine. We will slowly warm up by midweek, as a low pressure system moves closer to the east coast. It will shift winds to the southwest, allowing for warmer air and more moisture, increasing our dewpoint. The next cold front will be on Thursday, as I am expecting some decent precipitation and good rainfall, as the precipitation will continue into Friday afternoon.
In the tropics, a weak circulation near Mexico showed enough tropical characteristics to warrant calling it Tropical Depression Eight. However, the tropical has already moved inland, so it will dissipate within the next 24 hours.
