Forecast discussion: High pressure over southern Maine helped keep dry weather over Southern New England for another day. However, this high will begin to lose its influence on us, as a coastal low will bring clouds and some showers over Rhode Island.
As the high drifts off to the east, a low pressure system off the coast of North Carolina will move slowly northward on Thursday. We will see overcast skies by the morning commute, with some scattered showers by the mid-afternoon. I am expecting the heaviest precipitation by sunset, and continuing through the overnight. Showers will be more isolated by Friday, as the high once again pushes the low back to the south. We will see clearing skies by early Saturday morning.
The high will then try to fend off the precipitation throughout the weekend. We will keep moisture in our atmosphere, so the weekend will be partly sunny to mostly cloudy. However, the long weekend appears to remain dry. The high will continue to give us dry weather through Tuesday. The next chance for any rainfall will be Wednesday, as a cold front moves into the Great Lakes. We may see a few showers ahead of the front, with some rainfall expected by Wednesday afternoon. This will be a slow moving front, so we may see precipitation into next Thursday.
