Forecast discussion: A strong high pressure system over eastern Canada gave the entire Northeast U.S. fair weather today, after a dissipating frontal system brought clouds and some drizzle during the morning hours. There are still some cloud cover along the coastline, but should dissolve by midnight. Temperatures will go below freezing tonight, prompting a Freeze Warning for Bristol and Newport Counties from 2 a.m. until 8 a.m.
As we move through the week, the winds will shift from the northeast to the southwest. This will also be accompanied with an upper level ridge moving from the central U.S. to the eastern U.S. This will allow warmer air to travel further north. We will reach near 50 degrees by Tuesday, with temperatures reaching the 60’s on Wednesday and Thursday.
By Thursday, we will be seeing a change in the weather. The high will begin to move further into the Atlantic, as a low pressure system over Canada brings a warm front first Thursday morning, with a strong cold front in the evening. We will see steadier rainfall throughout the late afternoon and evening hours, before the precipitation ends early Friday morning. Colder air from Canada will move back in, as our temperatures return to more seasonable conditions for the end of next week, and the beginning of next week.
