Forecast discussion: The low pressure system that brought some rain on Friday continues to influence our weather, despite being far away from Providence. This will continue for the next couple of days, before we have to watch a low pressure system strengthening off the Mid-Atlantic coastline by the middle of the week.
At this time, little weak disturbances continue to rotate counter-clockwise from the low. It is already creating some flurries over northern Rhode Island, with some showers being reported over Boston. We may see a scattered snow shower tonight, but they will be short lived. It will be breezy and remaining cloudy on Monday, with some partial clearing tomorrow night, as a high pressure system tries to bring some drier air into our atmosphere early Tuesday morning.
We may even see some peeks of sunshine on Tuesday, before we await a low pressure system coming down from the eastern Rockies into the Mid-Atlantic Tuesday night. The computer models continue to suggest a blocking pattern, thanks to a high pressure system that will be over eastern Canada. This will keep the low to our south, and will move the low’s center to the east, instead of the northeast. So, we will miss a potentially wet and very windy event. However, we will see heavy precipitation early Thursday morning. Also, winds will be quite strong, especially along the south shore. So, we may see more beach erosion throughout Thursday.
The precipitation will lessen by Thursday night, with some scattered showers until Friday afternoon. The storm will move out to sea in time for the weekend, when we will finally see bright sunshine with high temperatures increasing into the upper 40’s.
