Providence weather forecast for Mar. 21, 2013 (Photos)

Forecast discussion: A weak area of high pressure gave Providence on Wednesday something we have not seen in a few days. The high gave us blue skies and bright sunshine for the entire day. Unfortunately, the odds of seeing two days in a row are extremely low.

As we move through this evening, a low pressure system off the east coast of Florida will be moving up the coastline. The main low will continue to move east-northeast, and away from the mainland. However, a small disturbance will form off the coast of New Jersey. This disturbance is what will actually create some snow showers during the overnight hours. As we move into Thursday, the disturbance will pick up some moisture from the Mid-Atlantic, and give us light snow for all of Thursday. With the warmer temperatures, we will not see much snowfall, if any. I’m only expecting a total of 1-3 inches by Thursday evening into early Friday morning. We will see a lingering snow shower Friday morning, before we some partial clearing late Friday evening, as the disturbance moves out into the Atlantic.

As we move into the weekend, forecast looks storm free. The only fly in the ointment is the daily temperatures. Despite entering the final full week of March, temperatures will remain below normal. As we begin the new workweek, there is the chance of a coastal storm bringing a mix of wet snow and rain showers to the area. The computer models are disagreeing with one another. The American model feels we will be clipped by this system, but the European model takes the low out to sea. For now, I will keep precipitation in the forecast, until I see a change in the American model.

After Monday night, high pressure will give us mostly sunny skies. Also, temperatures will climb into the middle to upper 40’s, which is more seasonable for this time of the year.
