Providence weather forecast for Mar. 15, 2013 (Photos)

Forecast discussion: Despite high pressure over Kentucky this evening, we will remain cloudy, as a weak disturbance moves offshore. This disturbance helped create the cloudy skies Providence received earlier on Thursday. As we move into the weekend, we will continue to see moisture and a few passing showers.

We will see more clouds than sun on Friday, as some moisture from the Great Lakes gets pulled by westerly winds. By Friday evening, a few passing showers will move through the state. This activity will be widely scattered, and will begin to taper off by early Saturday morning. The good news is that a weaker ridge of high pressure from Canada will give us more sunshine on Sunday, but the cooler air from Canada will keep our temperatures below normal for this time of the year.

We will begin the new workweek with sunshine through the early part of the afternoon on Monday. However, a low pressure system developing in the Southwest U.S. will move into the Mid-Atlantic. This low will bring showers to us just before we begin Tuesday. At this time, I feel most of Rhode Island will see rain. There is the slight chance that extreme northwest Rhode Island may see a mix of rain and snow. Eventually, the precipitation changes back to all rain for everyone by Tuesday afternoon. All precipitation will end by the evening.

A strong high pressure ridge from central Canada will give us dry weather by midweek. However, we will still feel below normal temperatures, even into the first day of astronomical spring.
