Forecast discussion: A high pressure ridge moving offshore into the Atlantic providing us with a mix of sun and clouds on Monday. Also, temperatures warmed into the middle to upper 40’s, allowing for a lot of snowpack and ice to melt. We will continue to see above normal temperatures for the next couple of days.
In fact, temperatures will reach the mid 50’s by tomorrow afternoon, but we will see more precipitation. However, instead of inches of snow, we should see between a half-inch to an inch of rain. Also, we will see patchy fog on Tuesday, especially where there are still large packs of snow. A Flood Watch is in effect for cities like Foxboro and Taunton from Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday evening.
After the front passes through early Wednesday morning, we will see one more day of above normal temperatures. From there, an upper level trough will bring back winter air over Rhode Island. High temperatures will only reach the lower 40’s on Thursday.
A weak disturbance will pass over the region Wednesday night, which could create a few rain showers into Thursday afternoon. We will see more clouds than sunshine for Friday, before an Alberta Clipper system passes through New England Saturday afternoon. At this time, it appears it will be a mix of rain and snow, with no to little accumulations possible. The ground temperatures will be too warm for any snowfall to stick to the surface.
We will begin early next week with high pressure building over the eastern U.S. However, temperatures will remain below normal for this time of the year.
