Forecast discussion: As Monday afternoon began, some flurries began to fall in Providence. By the early afternoon, the entire state was seeing light snow. But, by the start of the evening commute, southern Rhode Island began seeing a changeover to sleet and freezing rain. Now, looking at the latest radar imagery, the snow has moved off to our east. But, there will still be the chance for some freezing drizzle tonight, before temperatures warm enough to change it to a regular drizzle. For this reason, the National Weather Service extended the Winter Weather Advisory for the entire state until 6 a.m. Tuesday morning.
Skies will remain mostly cloudy for tomorrow, but we will begin to see warmer air slowly move into New England. The warm front associated with a low pressure system will remain just south of the state by Tuesday night. The front will help bring the chance of some scattered rain showers into early Wednesday morning. Also, we may see patches of fog. The scattered showers will continue into Wednesday afternoon, and it will become windy. But, the warm front will push through New England, and our temperatures will spike into the upper 50’s! Alas, this weather will not last very long.
Behind the warm air will be a cold front, connected to a separate low pressure system. This front will push through early Thursday morning. The front will have some heavy rainfall along it, and we could see up to an inch and a half of rain by the end of the precipitation. Arctic air behind the front will push back over New England, returning us back to winter.
As we move into Friday, a weak area of low pressure over Southern New England may help create some snow showers on Friday. A weak high pressure ridge will give us dry weather for Saturday, but will not stop an Alberta Clipper system from moving through the region Sunday. We will see some light snow during the morning hours. High pressure will dry our skies in time for next Monday.

Tuesday: Mostly cloudy and milder with a high of 43. Winds will come from the east-northeast at 4-7 mph.
Tuesday night: Scattered showers and patchy fog with a low of 36. Winds will come from the south at 4-7 mph.
Wednesday: Scattered showers, windy, and milder with a high of 57.
Wednesday night: A steady light to moderate rain with a low of 44.
Thursday: Light to moderate rain ending in the late morning with a high of 46.
Thursday night: Mostly cloudy and much colder with a low of 23.
