Providence weather forecast for Jan. 18, 2013 (Photos)

Forecast discussion: An arctic cold front will be pushing through Rhode Island this evening, and it will bring much colder air behind it. Temperatures this evening will fall into the upper teens to lower 20’s across the state. Meanwhile, a low pressure system off the southern coast of North Carolina will help bring some precipitation across the region early Friday morning.

However, most of the precipitation will remain offshore. But, the Cape and Islands will see the most snowfall, with about 1-3 inches falling. For Providence, we will see a coating to an inch. Locations north and west of Providence will only see some flurries.

The colder air will be brief, as winds from the southwest begin to blow in for Friday night and Saturday. Our high temperatures on Saturday and Sunday will reach the lower to middle 40’s. But, a second arctic cold front will be passing through New England by late Sunday afternoon. So, temperatures will be falling as the Patriots play their football game Sunday evening. It will also be breezy, so wind chills could be in the upper single digits to lower teens. The cold weather remains on the holiday on Monday.

I am still watching the computer models for a developing low pressure system off the east coast Monday evening into Tuesday. Right now, it seems the low will intensify, but remain well south and east of us. We may still see some flurries or light snow, but accumulations look very light at the moment. High pressure will build in by the middle of next week. However, high temperatures will remain below freezing.
