Providence weather forecast for Jan. 15, 2013 (Photos)

Forecast discussion: After a warm front moved through Southern New England earlier on Monday, it helped bring temperatures up to a high of 62 degrees in Providence! That is well above the average high of 37 degrees we should be seeing for mid-January. For the next few days, though, we will return to more January weather.

A cold front has already passed through Rhode Island earlier today. Along the front is a wave of low pressure, which is bringing sleet and rain to the mid-south. The low will stay south of us Tuesday morning, though it may bring some showers mostly to the south coast. Inland areas may see some passing sleet changing to rain showers by mid-morning. Any shower activity will end around noon. Temperatures tomorrow will only reach the lower 40’s. As we move into Tuesday night, another wave of low pressure along the front will move off of Long Island into early Wednesday morning. However, this time it will be cold enough to see light snow begin to fall. I’m thinking there may be an inch or two of snow on the ground during the morning commute.

However, the precipitation will change to rain showers by the late morning, making for a messy evening commute Wednesday evening. High pressure over the central U.S. will build over the east coast by Thursday, and give us drier weather for the upcoming weekend. It should be fair weather in Foxboro for the Patriots Sunday evening. By Monday, arctic air will move over the Northeast, and our high temperatures will only reach the upper 20’s.
