Providence weather forecast for Feb. 18, 2013 (Photos)

Forecast discussion: High pressure over central and eastern U.S. is beginning to help bring a decent sunset to Providence at the moment. The low pressure system that brought the overnight and Sunday morning snow has new centered itself over Newfoundland and Nova Scotia. There is still some light snow and freezing rain just moving away from Boston and Cape Cod. Rhode Island did see about two to five inches from the storm, while Plymouth County, the Cape, and the Islands did see about 7-10 inches.

For tonight, we will have clear skies and very cold temperatures. Also, we will still have strong winds, due to the high trying to build over us, and the low pressure system still influencing the area. Rhode Island has a Wind Advisory in effect until 12 a.m. Monday morning. Winds will still be breezy on Washington’s Birthday, but winds will diminish by tomorrow night.

The next storm system will arrive by Tuesday. Some warmer air will move in ahead of a warm front, and the precipitation will be mostly rain. However, it may start as a mix of rain and snow during the late morning. Despite temperatures reaching freezing Tuesday night, the precipitation will remain as rain. The rain will taper off by early Wednesday morning, and we should see mostly sunny skies by the afternoon. We will continue to see sunny but cooler temperatures entering the weekend.

As we move into Friday night, a coastal storm will bring the chance for some snow showers before midnight. The snow showers will continue into Saturday. The computer models indicate the low will continue to move offshore, so I will give us dry weather for Sunday. Temperatures may reach 40 degrees for a high temperature, with lows in the middle to upper 20’s.
