Forecast discussion: An area of low pressure has moved off the northern coast of North Carolina, and is bringing snow as far north as western Pennsylvania. This low will continue to track to the northeast, and away from Southern New England. However, we will see some light snow during the overnight hours. However, accumulations will be light, as any snow showers will end by the late morning. Providence will only see a dusting to an inch of snow while south of Kent County will see up to 2 inches.
After Thursday, we will see a small stretch of time when temperatures will be in the middle to upper 40’s.This will help melt some of the heavy snow pack that still remains in many parts of the state. By Friday night, despite the milder temperatures, a low pressure system well offshore of Southern New England will bring another chance at light snowfall. However, accumulations will remain light, as it will only snow from Saturday morning, before ending in the late afternoon.
As we head into early next week, an upper level trough will move over the eastern U.S. This will allow for colder air from the north to move into the Great Lakes and Northeast U.S. Despite sunny skies, temperatures on Sunday will be below freezing, with highs on Monday only in the middle 30’s. Some warmer air will return on Tuesday, ahead of a cold front that will bring some heavy precipitation for Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. At this time, we may see a mix of rain and snow, before turning to snow early Wednesday morning. By Wednesday afternoon, the precipitation will move into the sea, and we will see some partial sunshine. However, high temperatures will hover around freezing.
