Forecast discussion: We had quite a weather day here in Providence. Our high temperature for the day occurred at 6 a.m. this morning, when we tied an all-time high temperature record for Thursday at 62 degrees. Also, we had strong winds during the overnight and morning, which brought down power lines and large trees. 24,500 National Grid customers throughout the state did not have power this afternoon, and about 900 are still without power as of writing this article.
The cold front that brought colder air behind it is now well offshore. However, the colder air will remain over New England for the next several days. Tonight’s low will be about 30-35 degrees colder than Thursday morning. Also, we will still see breezy conditions, but wind gusts will be far below what we did see 24 hours ago.
The next weather system for us will be a weak area of low pressure forming offshore Saturday evening. Right now, the computer models keep the low to our south and east, and we do not see much moisture over the area. So, I would say we could see about 1-3 inches by Sunday night, with another half-inch on top of it by Monday morning.
The next low will be like an Alberta Clipper. These type of systems are fast moving lows which pick up moisture off the Great Lakes to create a little snowfall for Southern New England. The low will stay to our south Tuesday morning, but we will see snow showers throughout the day. There is the chance some of the snow showers change over to rain showers, but there may be enough cold air in our atmosphere to keep it as all snowflakes. But, because it is still some five days away, my confidence in Tuesday’s forecast is low. After some passing snow showers Wednesday morning, high pressure will stay south of Southern New England next Thursday, giving us mostly sunny skies.

Tonight: Partly cloudy and windy with passing flurries with a low of 26.
Friday: Partly to mostly sunny and breezy with a high of 35. Winds will come from the west-northwest at 13-17 mph.
Friday night: Partly cloudy with a low of 16. Winds will come from the west-northwest at 9-13 mph.
Saturday: Partly sunny with a high of 33.
Saturday night: Becoming cloudy with snow showers around 4 a.m. and a low of 20.
Sunday: Light snow through the day with a high of 35. At this time, we may see 1-3 inches throughout the day.
Sunday night: Light snow showers ending around 4 a.m. with a low of 24. Another dusting to a half-inch is possible.

Monday: Partly to mostly sunny. Highs 33-36, lows 21-24.
Tuesday: Light snow showers starting in the early morning, and ending by the evening. Highs 32-35, lows 21-24.
Wednesday: Morning snow showers, then becoming partly to mostly sunny. Highs 32-35, lows 20-23.
Thursday: Mostly sunny. Highs 34-37, lows 22-25.
