Forecast discussion: After almost a full week of sunshine and dry weather, we will actually see some precipitation on Thursday. The high pressure system that controlled Providence’s weather is moving off into the Atlantic. However, the wet weather will not last long, and we will return to seasonable temperatures and sunshine for the weekend.
Right now, a cold front is passing through Wisconsin, and will work its way towards the Northeast by tomorrow night. The front will bring increasing clouds as we reach dawn, and overcast skies are expected by noon. We will see some isolated showers and even a possible thunderstorm by the early afternoon. We will see some steadier precipitation during the overnight hours going into Friday morning. I would not be surprised if there are some isolated downpours, creating some quick street flooding.
By Friday afternoon, all the precipitation will move offshore, allowing for a strong high pressure ridge to begin building over Southern New England. We will see average temperatures for the last week of August, although some moisture passing to our south could help create a passing shower by Monday evening. As we head into the middle of next week, skies will be overcast for the kids returning to school on Wednesday. There is the chance of some passing showers on by the time kids come out of school, due to a low pressure system to our south.
