Forecast discussion: A strong high pressure system continues to give all of Southern New England dry weather, along with some sunshine. However, a wind coming off the water on Sunday and a low pressure system to our south will actually keep temperatures cooler than Saturday.
The high pressure system will remain in place, just like it has the last few days. However, a low pressure center off the Carolina coastline will help create a new low off of Long Island, NY this evening. The low will remain away from Providence, but the southern half of the state will see overcast skies tomorrow, with the threat of a passing shower. By Sunday night, the low will move into the Atlantic, and the high will once again allow drier air back over the state. You will notice that warmer, more humid air will return by early next week, as we return to the dog days of August. We may even reach 90 degrees by Wednesday.
The next chance for any precipitation will be on Thursday afternoon, when a cold front moves through the area. We could see some showers and thunderstorms into early Friday morning, before a new high pressure system helps to clear our skies and brings back some cooler, less humid air.
Finally, Tropical Storm Erin has not increased in any intensity since my last weather report. At this time, the National Hurricane Center says Erin will slowly move to the west-northwest and run into wind shear, despite moving into warmer sea temperatures. Because it will not have any upper level support, the tropical will slowly weaken into a remnant low within 96 hours, and then dissipate within 120 hours. Erin will not make any landfall at this time.
