Forecast discussion: A high pressure ridge is beginning to weaken across the east coast, as it brought sunny skies and very warm temperatures on Tuesday. According to T.F. Green Airport, we received a high of 70 degrees. However, over the next few days, temperatures will be slightly below normal.
The ridge is weakening because a cold front is moving towards Providence. Radar imagery shows showers in western Massachusetts and Connecticut. They should arrive by 8 p.m. and we will have an opportunity to see up to a half-inch of rain. Some people may even hear a rumble of thunder. But, the precipitation will come to an end by the end of the morning commute on Wednesday. Cooler, drier air will arrive behind the front, and with the high building in, winds will be quite strong.
The windy conditions will continue into Thursday, and the constant northwest winds will keep temperatures in the lower 60’s. By Friday night, a new cold front will bring increasing clouds and some isolated showers. The front will stall just offshore of New England, so there will be off and on shower activity on Saturday. So, do not cancel any outdoor activities, because right now the shower activity looks widely isolated.
By early Sunday morning, the main low will push off into Nova Scotia, allowing a new high pressure ridge to build over New England. The high will give us mostly sunny skies. Temperatures will be slowly rising into the lower 60’s as we reach next Tuesday.
