Forecast discussion: High pressure extending down from Canada gave Providence a beautiful spring day on Tuesday. Temperatures reached the lower 50’s by the early afternoon. We will remain clear to partly cloudy tonight, and temperatures will fall into the lower 30’s. Despite the dry weather, a Flood Warning will remain in effect until 8 a.m. Wednesday morning for the state of Rhode Island. This is due to some rivers in the area still receding below flood levels. It is expected they will fall under flood stage by tomorrow morning.
We will see extra clouds in the sky on Wednesday, as a low pressure system over the western Great Lakes will bring a warm front south of Southern New England. We will not see any precipitation from the front, but sunshine will be more limited than Tuesday. This will continue into the end of the week, as weak high pressure ridging holds off a much stronger low over the Ohio River Valley.
Eventually, the ridge will weaken, and that low will slowly move eastward. A secondary low forming along the cold front will pass into New England by late Friday night. We will begin to see some showers just after the evening commute. The precipitation will become heavier early Saturday morning, before the showers end by Saturday afternoon.
A strong high pressure system will move over New England for Sunday. The high will slowly drift off to our east on Monday. We will start the day with sunshine, but a cold front will bring some showers into the area by Monday night. We will see light to moderate rain until early Tuesday evening. Temperatures throughout the period will see highs in the 50’s and lows in the middle to upper 30’s.
