Forecast discussion: A strong high pressure system over the Mid-Atlantic gave moms over Southern New England incredible weather on Sunday. Temperatures reached 80 degrees in Providence, under brilliant sunshine. We will see a little bit of this weather on Monday, but you may want to bottle it for a future time. The weather becomes more unsettled for the rest of the week.

The high will move off to the south, as a cold front coming down from Quebec, Canada brings much cooler air. We will still see temperatures in the lower 80’s for high temperatures on Monday, because the front will push through Rhode Island Monday night. As we head into Tuesday, a weak high pressure ridge will come down from Canada and remain over New England. The ridge will keep showers away from the state until early Wednesday morning.

As we move into Wednesday evening, a strong cold front forming in the north central U.S. will begin to trek towards the east. This front will help create scattered showers for Thursday. According to the American model, a low pressure center will form over the Delmarva Peninsula Thursday night, and move into the Mid-Atlantic for Friday. This low will help bring moisture from the Atlantic, and the front will extend south into the Gulf of Mexico. Getting two significant bodies of water to feed the low, we will have the opportunity to see heavy rain and scattered thunderstorms into Saturday morning.

The low will slowly be pushed out to sea, and precipitation will taper off to showers by Saturday afternoon. Eventually, the rainfall will end by early Saturday evening. A weak ridge of high pressure will give us limited sunshine for next Sunday, with the chance for more showers by the evening. Temperatures will rebound after Tuesday’s below seasonable conditions. But, temperatures will fall to the lower 60’s for high temperatures by next Sunday.
