Forecast discussion: A ridge of high pressure from the south gave Providence a beautiful day on Friday, feeling more like spring. However, the weather pattern over the next week will make it wet with below normal temperatures heading into early next week.

High temperature forecast for April 26, 2014

As we move into this evening, a low pressure system over eastern Ohio will develop a second low pressure center along the triple point of a cold front, warm front, and occluded front all meet. The second low will pass just to our south early Saturday morning. We will see showers arrive by 4 a.m. and continue into the early afternoon. We may see a brief period of dry weather, but showers will return during the evening hours. The precipitation will finally end by Sunday morning, with some limited sunshine by the afternoon.

High pressure will bring the sunshine back for Monday, and temperatures will be near 60 degrees. By Tuesday evening, a strong low pressure system in the central U.S. will pick up moisture off the Gulf of Mexico. The high will eventually break down by Wednesday, allowing showers to arrive in the morning. Right now, the computer models are unsure how to handle the system after Wednesday. The main low will become stationary over the Great Lakes. This will allow the cold front to stay along the east coast, with a series of low pressure systems to ride up along the front. The American model is showing heavy rain and possible thunderstorms for Thursday, with more showers and light rain on Friday. The European model pushes the cold front out to sea, giving us some dry weather for Friday. So, my confidence in the forecast after Wednesday night is low.
