Forecast discussion: After a few showers early on Saturday morning, high pressure over the Great Lakes will begin to build into New England. It began earlier in the day, as the low from earlier this morning was moving into Canada. The pressure gradient between the two systems is what created the strong breezes for Saturday afternoon. Winds will slowly diminish this evening, and we will have wall to wall sunshine for Sunday. Temperatures will be in the middle 50’s across Rhode Island.

The high will bring clear skies for Sunday night, with more sunshine on Monday. However, we will begin to see increasing clouds starting in the mid-afternoon. This is due to a developing low pressure system just south of Brownsville, TX. This low will move through the Southeast U.S. before making it into the Mid-Atlantic on Monday afternoon. We will begin to see some showers by Monday night. As the low intensifies, many computer models suggest moderate to heavy rain during the morning hours on Tuesday. We could see up to an inch of rain, with some isolated areas seeing as much as 2 inches. The precipitation tapers to showers by the early afternoon, before the low moves offshore Tuesday night.

We will see mostly sunny skies and slightly cooler temperatures for the middle of the week. A cold front will pass through New England on Friday, bringing some scattered showers. The front will move offshore before midnight, and we will return to sunny skies but cooler temperatures for next Saturday.
