Forecast discussion: High pressure centered over western Ohio at the moment gave Providence a beautiful end to the weekend. We had bright sunshine through the morning and early afternoon. However, a weak disturbance brought some threatening clouds by the early evening. However, radar imagery shows there is not enough moisture around the area for any showers.
As we begin the workweek, high pressure will give us dry weather through the first half of the day. However, an approaching cold front from Canada, along with a stationary front near eastern Maine will create enough upper level dynamics for a passing shower or thunderstorm by the middle of the afternoon. The bad news is this front over Maine will give us unsettled weather for the rest of the week.
We will see a series of low pressure systems rotate in a counter-clockwise motion off the coast. This means the low will keep bringing in moisture off the waters. A low now passing over the western Rockies will bring the potential of some heavier rainfall by early Thursday evening. Temperatures will remain seasonable into Wednesday, but cooler air from an upper level low over the region will have our high temperatures fall into the lower 60’s by the end of the week.
As we head into the holiday weekend, temperatures will slowly increase back to seasonable conditions. Also, the series of lows will finally move offshore by early Saturday morning. But, some upper level dynamics may create a return of showers by Saturday afternoon. High pressure over the Tennessee River Valley will finally bring drier air and mostly sunny skies by next Sunday.
