Forecast discussion: After several days of weather playing havoc all over the eastern and southern U.S., we in Providence will see a rather tranquil weekend. Sadly, Saturday looks to be the best day of the weekend. On Sunday, we may have to worry about some strong thunderstorms.

Right now, a weak disturbance is passing through Southern New England. This disturbance helped trigger some showers over northern Rhode Island earlier Friday morning. Otherwise, it was a mixture of sun and clouds, as the cold front passed through late last night. We will see more clouds than sun on Saturday, and there is the small risk for a passing shower. But, temperatures will be quite mild, with highs reaching 70 degrees in some isolated spots.

As we head into Sunday, the low pressure center that created all the havoc will make a return to Southern New England. The low will pick up moisture from the Great Lakes, and pick up some colder air as it works its way eastward. We should see the first raindrops by the middle of the afternoon. Also, there is the chance for isolated thunderstorms, and these thunderstorms could have lightning and small hail. The activity will continue into early Monday morning, before skies begin to clear.

High pressure will control our weather from Monday into early Thursday morning. Temperatures will be slightly below normal, but they will still be close to seasonable. The next chance at seeing some rainfall will be Friday. A low pressure system is expected to bring a warm front through the region, creating showers and possible thunderstorms. Temperatures will slowly increase as we head into the end of next week.
