Forecast discussion: High pressure moving over Nova Scotia at the moment helped bring bright sunshine to Providence on Thursday. However, the high also helped bring colder air off the ocean to the mainland. So, it felt more like March than April. Thanks to the location of the high, winds come in from the northeast. Because the water temperatures are so cold, the winds helped to bring the temperatures down to below seasonable conditions. As we head into tomorrow, it will be slightly warmer, but the weather will not be bright and sunny.

High temperature forecast for April 18, 2014

A warm front passing south of the Great Lakes will help to create some low clouds this evening. The clouds may even create a patchy drizzle or mist. This will continue into the morning. Winds will remain off the ocean, so we will keep cloudy skies for the rest of the day. The clouds will linger into Friday night, but it will also help keep temperatures from falling. The make shift blanket will keep low temperatures near 40 degrees. By Saturday, a high pressure system will build towards the eastern U.S., helping to bring mostly sunny skies by the afternoon. Temperatures will also return to normal, with highs in the upper 50’s to lower 60’s.

By Easter Sunday, the high will continue to influence our weather, so I am expecting sunny skies and seasonable temperatures. The high will begin to move offshore, with a weak cold front from Canada bringing cloudy skies by Monday afternoon. The low will bring some light to moderate rain on Tuesday evening, and the precipitation ends by Wednesday morning. A new high pressure system brings back mostly sunny skies for Thursday. Temperatures will remain seasonable through next week.
