Have you ever thought about the word Proverb? It is made up of two words "pro" which typically means "for" or "positive" and "verb" which implies action. The book of Proverbs is a book about positive actions we should live out in our relationships with others. There are five main areas of discussion that we are to focus in on: wisdom, relationships, speech, work and success.
It is important we read Proverbs regularly, so we will know how to choose right from wrong, for when we choose God’s way, He will grant us wisdom. God wants us to be wise, but it is our responsibility to seek and know him in order to obtain wisdom.
The other four areas are greatly impacted by our wisdom. In order to relate to other people, we must show respect, tact, discipline, and consistency. We need the wisdom of God to know how to react and even be proactive in our relationships with our family, friends, colleagues, or acquaintances.
A classic example for input equals output is found in our words. Our words convey our identity and our real attitude toward those around us. Wisdom gives us the capability to speak appropriately in any given situation: therefore, our words are reflections of wisdom we have obtained.
Scripture says that whatever we do, we are to do it as unto the Lord. Without seeking and knowing God, we cannot reflect Him in our work environment or areas of accountability. Wisdom obtained through scripture gives us discipline, self-control and the desire to do a task well, even when the task may not be so desirable.
What is true success? The world will give you plenty of ideas, but are they God’s? Reading and knowing the positive actions God wants you to take in life sets the path for righteous living, which is true success. Developing a character marked by Christ is true success. It is not based on fame, fortune or power. God’s wisdom shows us how to live successfully no matter what our station in life maybe!
Positive actions to live by are found in Proverbs. Read them, love them, learn them, and apply them. They are action verses to live by!
Begin reading today the corresponding Proverb chapter to the current day of the week and make this a daily lifelong habit. In thirty one days you will have read the entire book of Proverbs. As you do this, you will begin to see the verses become a reality you live out, as you meditate on them and apply them it gets easier to walk by faith.
“A highway shall be there, and a road,
And it shall be called the Highway of Holiness.
The unclean shall not pass over it,
But it shall be for others.
Whoever walks the road, although a fool,
Shall not go astray.”
