French writer Marcel Proust made these questions famous at the end of the nineteenth century when he recorded his answers in his diary, “An Album to Record Thoughts, Feelings, etc.”
Known as the Proust Questionnaire, the following questions are selections from his original quiz. Today, Ruby Rockit of Red Light Burlesque in Austin takes time to answer a few for us.
1. What is your greatest extravagance?
Clothes, costumes, shoes, craft supplies- I have an entire room devoted to these things... it's a bit out of control. I have more costumes and lingerie than I do real clothes. I'd say shopping in general is probably my biggest indulgence- I have a hard time telling myself no :)
2. Which talent would you most like to have?
I wish I could sing, at least a little bit so I'd quit scaring the dogs :) And learn the trapeze, though I'm working on that one!
3. What do you consider your greatest achievement?
Being able to do all the things I love and make money at them- I am a an independant hair stylist and make up artist, that pays the bills and allows the flexable schedule to do burlesque, go go and modeling. also getting over stage fright (yes, I used to have stage fright!!) to be able to shake my sparkly parts under the bright lights is a pretty major acheivement.
4. What do you most value in your friends?
Loyalty, honesty, integrity and a good sense of humor!
5. Who are your favorite writers?
In general I tend to read lighter sillier stuff to take the stresses of life away- I like Christopher Moore, Davis Sedaris, Amy Sedaris, but unfortunately I've been so busy lately that I haven't been reading much. I also love biographies and anything having to do with circus or burlesque history. So I guess the answer is I don't have a favorite as of now!
6. Who is your favorite hero of fiction?
Wonder Woman!! (She's partially why I've been obsessed with blue hair- it started out with black hair with blue highlights like Wonder Woman's hair in the comics! I love her!)
7. What is your motto?
Work hard, play hard, and look good doing both :)
