Proust Questionnaire: Erin Go Braughless

French writer Marcel Proust made these questions famous at the end of the nineteenth century when he recorded his answers in his diary, “An Album to Record Thoughts, Feelings, etc.”

Known as the Proust Questionnaire, the following questions are selections from his original quiz. Today, Erin Go Braughless of Big Star Burlesque in Austin takes time to answer a few for us.

1. What is your biggest extravagance?

Loving endlessly. There are very few people that I let into my life, but the ones that I do I love big and I love hard.

2. What talent would you most like to have?

I have always wanted to know what I feels like to be able to sing really well. It just looks like it feels amazing.

3. What do you consider your biggest achievement?

Overcoming my body issues is a huge matter of pride for me. I grew up hating my body for years and years and to one day just come to terms with it redirected the entire rest of my life.

4. What do you value most in your friends?

I have had so many people that I thought were my friends turn into different people. I believe that in a true friendship, you allow each other to grow, not try to stuff each other into a mold of how it used to be.

5. Who are your favorite writers?

George Orwell is my favorite bar none. I also love Christopher Moore, J.K. Rowling, and Paul McCartney.

6. Who is your favorite hero of fiction?

Ms. Marvel. She kicks ass, takes names, and looks fly.

7. What is your motto?

Fat girls take up more room in the spotlight.
