The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced a recall on high protein chocolate bars on March 19. Pro-Amino International Inc. has recalled ProtiDiet High Protein Chocolate Bars due to possible contamination of salmonella.
In collaboration with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency and the FDA, Pro-Amino International is warning people not to eat any of the protein bars that may be contaminated with the pathogen.
The recalled Canadian-manufactured protein bars will affect boxes which bear the UPC 6 21498 42238 with lot code CR 18 13B; the Best-Before-Date will be stamped 2015-08 on the 7.4-ounce boxes.
According to the FDA,” Salmonella is a public health risk and is one of the most common causes of foodborne illness. Healthy people infected with Salmonella may experience some or all of the following symptoms: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, abdominal cramping and fever.
Although rare, Salmonella can result in more serious ailments including arterial infections, endocarditis (inflammation of the lining of the heart), arthritis, muscle pain, eye irritation and urinary tract symptoms. Consumers exhibiting these signs after having contact with the Pro-Amino product subject to this recall should contact their health care provider immediately.”
The affected food was distributed to retail outlets in Ala., Ark., Calif., Conn., Fla., Mass., N.H., N.Y., N.C., Ohio, Penn.,S.C., Texas and Va.; they were also sold via the Internet.
Consumers who have purchased the ProtiDiet High Protein Chocolate Bars should either dispose of the product or return them back to where they were purchased for a full refund.
No illnesses have been reported to date.
Consumers may call the Pro-Amino International customer service at 1-800-555-2170, ext. 227 with any questions or concerns as a result of this food recall.
