Protect Life Act passes House

Washington (Oct 13)

House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) issued the following statement after the House approved H.R. 358, the Protect Life Act, bipartisan Pledge to America legislation that applies the Hyde Amendment to the job-crushing health care law and strengthens conscience protections for health care providers, including doctors, nurses, and hospitals:

With this bipartisan legislation, we are continuing to keep our pledge to listen to the American people, who overwhelmingly oppose taxpayer funding of abortion.  The people’s will should be reflected in the law of the land, as opposed to an executive order that has no force of law and was deliberately conceived for that reason.  The House has also passed common-sense, bipartisan legislation to codify the Hyde Amendment across all federal programs.  Both of these Pledge to America bills have bipartisan support in the House and deserve a vote in the Senate.”
