Many consider Eric Berry to be the best player on College football, and they might not be wrong. It is very hard to find a hole in his game, maybe we say he does not have ideal size, maybe we say he has had some left shoulder trouble, but in reality he is the finest Safety Prospect since Sean Taylor (R.I.P.).

He can cover, and he can hit, and really he is the guy. If he played at a different position, we would be speculating about him going number one overall, but the way the draft is shaking out he may end in Seattle with the 6th overall pick.

A team picking Berry is going to have to balance need versus talent. None of the teams picking in the top 10 have a primary need at Safety save for maybe Jacksonville. That means a team is going to have to decide he is too talented to pass up. Right now that team looks to be the Seattle Seahawks, but with a new regime in place who really knows.

It would be nice to see NFL teams abandon some draft history, think outside the box and select Berry with a very high pick. No safety has ever gone #1 overall, it has been since 1991 when a team used a second overall pick on a Safety (Eric Turner, UCLA).
