There seems to be little doubt that CJ Spiller will be one of the first RB’s selected in the 2010 draft. He has excellent vision, speed. Quickness, agility, and speed explosiveness, and probably has the most potential of all the backs entering the 2010 NFL draft.
While he can run both inside the tackles and to the outside, his really strengths are busting plays outside, and using good, even moves to make tacklers miss him in the open field.
He has soft reliable hands, and can catch the ball out of the backfield as well, and even though he is smaller he is unafraid to lower his shoulder and take on a tackler to get those extra yards.
He is at his best when making one cut, meaning, making one move then using his explosive speed to get up the field. He also has above average pass blocking skills. Basically I am painting a picture of a very complete back. He can also return kicks.
While he most reminds me of Barry Sanders, his main weakness is a tendency to hesitate and look for the cut back lane. Sometimes he dances around behind the line looking for lane, and as always with a smaller back, his lower body strength is minimal.
In today’s NFL he would be a great complimentary back to a between the tackles power runner. He is a four year starter, who also returned kicks all four years at Clemson.
