Prospect Park makes statement about shared ‘General Hospital’ characters

Prospect Park may have been hearing the fans concern over what was happening with the beloved characters of Todd, Starr and John which originated on “One Life To Live.” These characters, as well as the actors who are playing them, are now residing in the fictional town of Port Charles on the soap opera, “General Hospital.” The characters have paved a new life in this town and on this soap. This is why the news or rumors that the fans have been hearing has had many a bit upset.

The news began with Michael Easton, the actor who plays John McBain, and his post on Facebook that stated he would no longer be allowed at the “General Hospital” studio after February 8th due to a legal matter. This legal matter was the contracts between ABC and Prospect Park over what would happened with the characters of John, Starr and Todd. Prospect Park owns the characters. ABC has contracts with the actors who played them.

Then rumors began floating around about what this would mean. One rumor even stated that ABC would have the actors playing new characters.

Finally, Prospect Park made an announcement. They stated that ABC would be allowed to continue using the characters on “General Hospital” while they continue to try to negotiate a deal. Yet, they feel that the characters are vital for their production efforts.

The press announcement can be found within their press release, within an article at soapopernetwork.com and read here:

“Prospect Park understands that ‘General Hospital’ has featured Llanview transplants Michael Easton (John) and Kristen Alderson (Starr) among others while we arranged production of the new version of ‘One Life to Live.’ These characters, who we own under our agreement, are obviously essential to our production efforts, and a large reason we licensed the program. We also understand that legions of ‘General Hospital’ fans have grown to love these actors and characters in a short time. So even though we are paying ABC millions of dollars to license the shows, we have been, and continue to be willing to equally share the characters with ‘General Hospital’ and ABC. It’s a win-win for the actors, the shows and fans, who love all of the shows and storylines. We hope to work out these agreements with ABC and the actors.”
