On Saturday, super flyweight prospect Bruno Escalante marched forward in his career winning a majority decision against a tough opponent in Joseph Rios at the Cache Creek Casino in Brooks, California.

In the early rounds, both fighters were cautious, studying each other without much risk. Rios applied most of the pressure as Escalante countered and slowly began to demonstrate hi superior boxing skills.

However, both fighters had their moments of control in the middle rounds. Escalante (10-1-1, 5KO’s), a southpaw, was able to get into a rhythm landing lead lefts followed by sharp right hooks, while Rios (13-9-2, 4KO’s) managed to cut off the ring, forcing Escalante to fight in the pocket.

During one those exchanges, Rios landed a couple of hard stunning blows, but Escalante showed he was in great physical condition and countered back with some hard shots of his own.

As the fight entered the final round, Rios who was down on the cards, did his best to get back in the fight, but his efforts were unsuccessful as the judges’ scorecards after the final bell read 76-76, 78-74 and 78-75, all in favor for Escalante.

"This was a very tough fight and I'm going to take this experience and learn from it," said Escalante. "These are the type of fights that take you to the next level. I want to thank my team for giving me great instructions in the ring. It was a team effort and I'm ready to see what's next. I'm hoping to get right back in the ring."

The talented fighter from Redwood City -in the Northern California area- is now on a five bout win streak since the only defeat in his career.

"Bruno showed me he can handle a pressure fighter," Manager Herb Stone said. "Pressure fighters are very difficult to beat, but Bruno proved he can box his way to victory. I was very impressed with his stamina and conditioning. I'm looking to get him back in the ring soon."

The 8-round co-feature bout was promoted by Don Chargin Productions and Paco Presents in association with Jorge Marron Productions.
